Color Spectrophotometer – Matching Paint

To eliminate any guesswork when covering up a scratch or dent, experienced collision repair technicians need to use a replicated paint color. Without a matching shade, a collision technician’s work will look unprofessional and maybe even worse than an actual scratch or ding would. Individuals with older, classic cars run into this problem frequently because there are certain instances where the manufacturer has discontinued the paint.

To find a matching paint color for a damaged vehicle, collision repair technicians use a device called a spectrophotometer to properly identify the exact shade of the vehicle’s current color. The machine measures the amount of light and the exact hues on the car’s current paint finish. This data is then paired with the vehicle’s VIN to electronically find the paint formula on the vehicle’s existing finish.

When the spectrophotometer matches its data with the VIN of the car, collision repair technicians have a solid grasp on the vehicle’s current paint color. Through computer measuring systems, that paint color is then replicated and applied over the damaged area, leaving you with a car that looks brand new.

The Benefits of Waxing your Vehicle

Having your car waxed might seem like an unnecessary luxury to some, but regular waxing has many benefits. Regular car wash and waxing will help keep your vehicle looking brand new and preserve the value. Waxing your car not only makes it look nicer, but also protects the paint.

Car Waxing is an important part of car maintenance as it protects your paint, makes your vehicle easier to clean, stays cleaner longer, and provides a lasting shine that is sure to turn heads when you are cruising down the street. While cleaning your vehicle can help to correct contaminations to an extent, wax can help to prevent the contaminations in the first place.

Adding wax provides an additional protective layer that defends your paint and clear coat against the elements. Wax can be effective in protecting your paint by adding an additional layer that things such as rocks, grime and micro particles have to go through in order to damage the paint. Wax also makes the vehicle easier to clean.

Paint protects against scratches by providing extra layer when washing your vehicle. Microparticles can bond with the clear coat of your vehicle when they are not removed. Wax provides an extra layer that is easy to remove through the use of washing, however, clear coat is not the same story. For this reason, it makes sense to apply wax. Instead of those particles bonding with the clear coat layer of your vehicle, they cling to the wax which is removable. This prevents swirls and scratches in the paint of your vehicle, which help to retain and, in some cases, increase the value of your vehicle. By preventing these paint swirls and scratches, you are extending the life of your paint.

Wax also provides protection against dirt, water, and sun exposure. Wax can be highly effective with helping dirt to fall off your car instead of clinging to it, which means that your car is easier to clean, and will stay clean for a longer duration. Water droplets can be an annoying occurrence especially when they are on your vehicle’s windows. They can even distract you in certain situations and block your vision which poses a safety risk. UV protection is also a major benefit of waxing, it helps to prevent the fading of your paint.

Simoniz Diamond Plate

Diamond Plate is a nano ceramic polymer coating that reacts with your vehicle’s clear coat finish to form a second layer and thicker coating for added protection. These coatings are so durable that they are used widely in the aerospace industry.

Diamond Plate protects against:

  • Acid Rain
  • Bird Droppings
  • Insects
  • Hard Water Spots
  • Exposure to the sun causing fading, chalking, loss of gloss.

Three independent laboratory tests have proven that Diamond Plate will last well beyond 2 years on your vehicle’s surface.

Microfiber towels long island

Auto Detailing Guide – Microfiber Towels

Microfiber towels long islandWhat Is Microfiber?

Microfiber products are absolutely essential to high quality detailing for both the interior and exterior of any vehicle. Microfiber towels, applicators, wash mitts and pads are used in virtually every area of detailing. You may use microfiber products to clean the paint, leather, wheels, glass, interior and so much more. The uses are literally endless so you can never have enough top quality microfiber products.

Microfiber is made up of a unique blend of materials with an innovative weave and fiber designs made of ultra fine synthetic yarn. The synthetic yarn is usually comprised of 70% – 80% polyester with 20% – 30% polyamide depending on the specific towel. Each strand is approximately 0.2 denier, which is equivalent to 1/20th of a strand of silk or 1/100th of a human hair. The cross section of a microfiber strand resembles an asterisk (*), which allows them to collect and trap particles whereas traditional towels push particles around or temporarily collect them. On dry surfaces the microfiber towels use electrostatic energy to easily lift and collect large amounts of dust, dirt and other particles in to the micro-wedges of each fiber.

People often will splurge on their wax but spend far less on microfiber products when they are truly the backbone of a good detail. Investing in quality towels and caring for them will greatly increase your results while saving you time and money in the long run. The life of your microfiber products will vary based on the quality of the towel and how well you care for them. Not all microfiber towels are created equal so low quality towels may feel nice at first but they often break down rapidly with just a few washes. At BenAmiAutoCare.com we take great pride in selecting only top quality towels that will last for years with good care.

Microfiber Care

Generally we recommend you maintain three groups of towels, storing them in separate containers. The first group is the pristine new towels that you use on the most sensitive surfaces such as the exterior paint, gages, navigation screens, etc. The second group are towels still in great condition but may be a bit worn, which we use for interior cleanings, glass care, leather treatments, etc. All other towels in the third group may have visible stains and be noticeably worn down. Use these towels for your dirty jobs like cleaning the exhaust tips, engine bay detailing, door jambs, etc.
